Stephanie Hutter-Thomas, Ph.D
Stephanie Hutter-Thomas, PhD, CPH, RCP-F Director of Operations Dr. Stephanie Hutter-Thomas brings a rare blend of business acumen, behavioral science, and lived experience to her role as Director of Operations at ARCHway Institute. Her path into recovery-focused work has been anything but linear, and that is exactly what makes her effective.
She began her career in accounting and business management before earning a master’s in industrial-organizational psychology and a PhD in psychology and behavioral research, along with a graduate certificate in public health. The result is a leader equally at home reconciling a budget, designing a research study, or coaching a peer through their first day on the job.
Over more than 15 years, Stephanie has directed federally funded research with Johns Hopkins University, West Virginia University, and the University of Maryland; built and led peer support and recovery workforce initiatives across her region; and secured competitive funding to establish the first women’s residential recovery house in rural Mountain Maryland. As the founder of a human services focused consulting practice, she has helped nonprofits and behavioral health organizations develop strategic plans, secure funding, strengthen their teams, and turn data into action.
A frequent and sought-after speaker, Stephanie presents regularly at local, state, and national conferences on addiction and recovery, with a particular passion for elevating the voices of lived experience through advocacy and championing peer workforce development. What ties all of her work together is a deep, personal commitment to people affected by adverse childhood experiences, substance use and mental health challenges. A registered peer supervisor (Maryland), Recovery Coach Professional Facilitator (RCP-F), a course writer and master trainer, she pairs her professional expertise with her own lived experience and an unshakable belief that meaningful change starts at the community level.
Rooted in the mountains of Western Maryland, she is an active agent for change and is energized by the chance to support ARCHway’s mission.
