ARCHway Institute teamed up with CBHC in Punta Gorda, Florida on March 18th for the 3rd Annual Charity Golf-Lunch-Silent Auction at Twin Isles Country Club. The event raised nearly $16,000 to fight the disease of addiction in the area.

“It was a fantastic day, the weather was perfect and we had 84 golfers and 110 folks total come to the lunch to hear our speakers and help raise money for the cause,” commented Dan Stuckey, Chairman of ARCHway and the event coordinator.

Annette Franks was the keynote speaker and talked about why Addiction is a disease and not a choice. Annette Franks’s background includes being a Corporate Wellness Coach and Licensed Professional Counselor licensed by the State of Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board.

ARCHway also sponsored a FREE TO THE PUBLIC seminar on March 20th where Annette Franks was the speaker. Annette talked at the seminar on Active Addiction is the most Untreated Treatable Disease in the United State” and The Bridge between Active Addiction and Recovery is Individual and Community Education, the Intervention Process and Effective Multidimensional Treatment that addresses the Biopsychosocial Nature of Addiction. Close to 50 individuals from the community attended this two-hour event held in the Charlotte Community Foundation Event Center. CBHC CEO Victoria Scanlon stated, “ARCHway is bringing critical information to the Charlotte County community to give families tools in helping their loved ones achieve recovery. It is such a privilege for our community to have access, through this training, to some of the latest research and practices in treating addiction.”

At the Charity Golf Outing on March 18th, the O’Brien family talked about their journey of recovery and how they needed help and support from the whole community to change the direction of their lives.

Drug Free Punta Gorda Director Chrissie Salazar talked about prevention programs in the local schools. She commented, “The recent grant ARCHway awarded DFPG was funding three specific drug & alcohol prevention programs in our middle schools and high schools.”

Sheriff Prummell and CBHC CEO Victoria Scanlon talked about last year’s results for the Addiction Recovery Initiative and their goal to expand the program’s use in 2017. CBHC CEO Victoria Scanlon commented, “Our goal, when beginning the Addiction Recovery Initiative, was to enable families to access treatment through this initiative without any out of pocket costs to them. We did not want cost to be a barrier. We are grateful to ARCHway for supporting this effort as we begin year 2 of the Addiction Recovery Initiative.” ARCHway was able to support this initiative again by providing CBHC a $6,700 Grant from the funds raised at this year’s event.

Councilmember Nancy Prafke covered the City Council’s support for ARCHway’s effort in the community by reading a city proclamation declaring March 18, 2017, as ARCHway Institute for Mental Health and Addictive Disorders Day.

John Stuckey who is the President/Executive Director and visionary for ARCHway commented that “ARCHway believes in recovery from the disease of addiction. The first step is the individual must want to get better but after that they need the support and resources from family, friends and the community to help them get better. ARCHway was formed to help bring awareness and educate individuals, families, and communities about the issues surrounding the disease of addiction as well as raise funds to be used as scholarships to help those with financial barriers get the help they need.”
